How to Charge My New Laptop Battery?
Your new laptop battery comes in a discharged condition and must be charged before use. Battery may require two to three charge/discharge cycles before achieving maximum capacity.
Please note when charging the laptop battery for the first time your computer may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is a normal phenomenon with battery charging. Simply remove the battery from the computer and repeat the charging procedure.
It is normal for a laptop battery to become warm during charging and discharging.
How Can I Maximize My Laptop Battery Performance?
1. Lower Screen Brightness
Lower the brightness of the LCD screen when using your laptop. Laptops consume a lot of energy maintaining bright screen levels. If you want more power for computing tasks, you will have to make do with a darker screen. Make sure that you can still comfortably read the text on your screen when adjusting the brightness of the display.
This is actually a win-win situation. With a darker LCD screen, you not only save power, you also put less strain on your eyes.
2. Rest Your Laptop
When you are not using your laptop, turn it off or place it in sleep or hibernate mode. There is a quick button on your laptop that you can press to achieve a desired state of activity. Simply closing the lid of some laptop models can place the units in standby mode.
When active, your laptop is draining considerable energy to spin your hard disk drive. When your computer is sleeping or hibernating, the hard disk stops spinning; thus, you are able to save power and extend the life of your laptop battery.
3. Do Away with Unused Peripherals
Computer peripherals such as mice, external hard disk drives and external optical drives need electricity to run. When you are done using this equipment, unplug them from the system so they will no longer drain battery power. Laptops have a touchpad so you can actually make do without a mouse.
4. Avoid Unnecessary Applications
Playing games, listening to music, or watching videos will deplete your laptop battery fast. Concentrate on the tasks for which you brought your laptop for and try not to get distracted by unnecessary applications that will add an extra load on your laptop battery. Try not to run too many applications at one time too. Your laptop computer will need to work harder to run several applications at one than if you run only a few applications at a time. Stick to important tasks and you will have more time to finish them.
