A short biography of the artist:
Huda Shah was born in Dubai, UAE in 1985 to a multicultural family of Arab and Pakistani roots. She spent her initial childhood years with her parents in the Holy City of Qum, in Iran, where she and her family witnessed harsh realities of the Iran-Iraq War. At the age of 4, Shah, along with her family, fled Iran and relocated to the United States to the East Coast. In 1991, Shah’s family moved to the West Coast to the San Francisco Bay Area, settling down in San Jose, one of California’s most multi-ethnic cities.
Shah grew up in a strong family with an environment that was artistically nurturing. Raised by a talented family, she was consistently exposed to both visual and auditory creativity, which nourished her young passion for art. At the small age of 15, Shah graduated as an exceptional student from high school and proceeded to join San Jose State University at the age of 16 in 2000. Since than she has spent eight years studying and mastering various mediums by majoring in Fine Arts- Photography, Spatial Arts, and Art History. Shah was recently accepted into the highly prestigious and competitive BFA degree program at her university and will soon graduate with three honorary Fine Arts degrees at the end of 2009.
Shah has exhibited her work in various galleries in San Jose, and is now sharing her story as an artist and teacher in the Middle East and South East Asia. She has also been involved in supporting the fight against the violation of human rights of women in the United States and abroad, and works as a personal counselor for young South Asian & Middle Eastern females in her local community on a regular basis.
